CoperciN v0.1 | Published by GomerciN | Via Cydia | Free | Released: 9-14-08

Overview

Holy scissors, Batman! Could it be… Nah. Millions have asked Apple for simple copy-and-paste on the iPhone. There’s no way that a first-time programmer in Objective C beat Apple to the punch… or is there? Gizmodo said it best in their teaser:

So now students are doing your dirty work and besting you, Apple—’bout time for you to jump in this ring, no?

Though copy and paste on the iPhone has been explored before with MagicPad (only works within its notes app) and OpenClip (demise met with 2.1 firmware), CopierciN allows inter-app functionality, but is only available on jailbroken devices.

While CopierciN only offers limited capabilities of copy and paste, it is an impressive and lauded first effort. With CopierciN, you’ll be able to type and paste into a file, an SMS, Mail, or the Notes app while also being able to import text from any of these sources for pasting elsewhere.

Functionality

Admittedly, the creator of the app, GomerciN, says that the app is rudimentary, but you’ll love the ability to finally be able to quickly and easily send common messages over SMS, use it to paste information into Notes or retrieve the information from your Notes and paste it into an email.

IntelliScreen v2.1 | Published by Intelliborn | Via Cydia | $4.99-$49.99 | Released: 9-04-08

What’s New In This Version

Just a few days after reviewing Intelliscreen as it’s been ported over to firmware 2.0, Intelliborn released a major upgrade for the handy screen utility with version 2.1.

The company was kind enough to give us a heads up about the impending release, and we’ve had access to their betas. All I can say is that a good product keeps getting better, and that they are extremely responsive to suggestions.

Look at their provided list of fixes and upgrades for the new version, and chances are you’ll see a feature request, bug or two that’s been addressed:

2.1 Features

  • Quickview (replaces swipe for SMS/Mail Allows Delete/Mark Read)
  • IntelliAlert Icon You can swipe to dismiss IntelliAlerts
  • Double Tap Mail Box to advance to next Mail Account
  • SMS Launch takes you to SMS conversation
  • Mail Launch takes directly you to Mail item
  • More Frequent Alert Intervals Options
  • Alert Duration Interval
  • Skin view now allows choice of cell separator
  • IntelliAlerts for Calendar Invites
  • HTTPS support for RSS Feeds
  • Detailed Help

SugarSync v1.0 | Published by Sharpcast, Inc. | Via App Store | Free | Released: 8-26-08

Overview

With this app’s impressively up-to-date backups, SugarSync (a web-based, file back-up solution) offers access to its online accounts, allowing users to view and open current collections of personal files from a handheld device.

Functionality

This app is pretty straightforward in that it allows users to access their previously backed up files through their SugarSync accounts. The catch? A SugarSync account costs money (after a 45-day trial account expires).

IntelliScreen v2.02 | Published by Intelliborn | Via Cydia | $4.99-$49.99 | Released: 8-19-08

Update

9/04/08 - IntelliScreen v2.1 released.

Overview

At first glance you might wonder why IntelliScreen even exists. After using it for a while, you’ll discover you can’t live without it. It puts everything from your calendar, new mail, news feeds, and weather on your iPhone home screen for quick viewing.

Functionality

IntelliScreen installs from Cydia (yes, you’ll need a jailbroken iPhone) and just its name makes me feel smarter. I’m an IntelliScreen user… Oooo. Say it again. However, its name perhaps understates all that it does for the iPhone user. It is such a full-featured app that I think it could be customized to any desired user experience.

What it does is place what you want on your homescreen for quick glance viewing. No longer do you have to wake up your iPhone with a swipe, exit whatever program you left running and launch another app to get your information.

You wake up your iPhone - either with the home button or the power button, and IntelliScreen is just there. Ready to serve.

Endless Walls v1.0.4 | Published by Motacore, LLC | Via App Store | $1.99 | Released: 8-26-08

Overview

Want a new wallpaper image, but feel too lazy to search the web? Endless Walls offers a random slideshow of thousands of good-quality photos that can be set as your iPhone’s background image. It can be convenient, but it’s limiting, unresponsive and should not cost $1.99.

Functionality

Endless Walls will stream a slideshow of photos to your phone that can be downloaded and used as your wallpaper image.

There is no order to this random assortment of photos and no way of narrowing down the category or type of image displayed, other than adjusting an option for NSFW (not safe for work) photos that can be changed in your iPhone’s settings.

DataCase v1.0 | Published by Veiosoft, LLC | Via App Store | $6.99 | Released: 8-11-08

Overview

DataCase helps you make USB drives things of the past by flexing the power of your iPhone or iPod Touch, using it as a wireless portable storage device. It’s simple, quick and convenient, although slightly overpriced.

Functionality

With DataCase, the next time you need to quickly move a large file between computers you can whip out your iPhone from your utility belt, in superhero fashion, launch the app and simply drop files into the drive, which will appear in your computer’s finder or desktop browser. No cables, no keychain drives, no nonsense.

To work, your phone or iPod needs to be connected to the same wireless network as your computer, but once connected can easily be accessed by Mac OS or Windows users (check out DataCase’s simplicity in these quick video walkthroughs). Continue Reading

How to Tether Your iPhone Without NetShare (Mac Walkthrough)

Author: Nic Elder   |   Posted under: How-Tos
Tags: , , , , , , ,

Some of you were lucky enough to grab a copy of NetShare before it was taken down from iTunes (twice), but for those of you who weren’t (present company included), I’ll walk you through accomplishing the same result using a jailbroken iPhone.

NOTE: This walkthrough assumes you have already jailbroken your iPhone, see our 3G Jailbreak Tutorials for Mac Users & Windows Users (this walkthrough is for Mac users only, Windows version coming shortly).

Walkthrough

1. Download Boss Prefs from Cydia (see this Tutorial for help)

Boss Prefs is a great program that easily lets you enable and disable certain functions on your iPhone. Some of the built in features it supports are:

  • 3G Data on/off
  • Edge Data on/off
  • WiFi on/off
  • Bluetooth on/off
  • SSH on/off

Boss Prefs also lets you create custom toggles, which we will be doing in this tutorial.
