Review: ESPN Cameraman vs. Photo Hunter

ESPN Cameraman v1.0.3 | Published by EpicTilt | Via App Store | Free | Released: 11-08-08

Photo Hunter v1.1 | Published by Eric Chen | Via App Store | $0.99 | Released: 11-07-08

Overview

What you’ve got here are two apps that are great fun for any age, at any time. They are essentially the digital age takeoff of the old “What’s Wrong in This Picture?” from the kids magazine Highlights. These magazines always were the most worn, dog-eared periodicals in the doctor’s office. Both of these apps will see their share of wear and tear as well.

Functionality

Both apps essentially do the same thing. You’re presented with two nearly-identical pictures, and you’re given a time limit to identify the differences in the two pictures. These may be as obvious as someone having no ear to as subtle as the change of color on a wristband.

Both apps challenge you to find five differences between the two pictures. You tap on the part of the picture that’s different, and a highlighted circle appears around your selection if you got it right. Then you’re off to find the rest of the differences.

Both apps allow you to “cheat” by using a certain number of chances. Cheats will also be used up if you make a mistake by tapping where there’s not a difference in the two images.

iFun (Almost) Turns Your iPhone Into A Wii-Mote

Author: Robin Eddins   |   Posted under: News, Videos

If you like the Wii then you will love love iFun. SGN has just released iFun, which turns your iPhone into an accelerometer driven game controller, just like the remote used on the Wii gaming system.

Swing your iPhone around to hit some golf balls, sink some hoops or even knock down some pins. iFun was designed for gamers to use their iPhone as a controller, and not as the main screen, rather you use a desktop computer or laptop to display the gameplay. This application is great for those of you who are sick of being refined to the small screen on your iPhone.

iFun actually turns your iPhone into a larger gaming unit, and just like most other large gaming units, you have the ability to play other gamers over the internet. Invite your Facebook friends to play online or even invite friends with emails from your address book.

To start the fun you must obviously first download the free app at the App Store and second register at their website. This application is available for both the iPhone and the iPod Touch, and the developers say to look out for more sports games coming soon.

Check out the video above to get a first look at how the app works.

Puzzlotto Winner To Receive $8,000 Prize

Puzzlotto, an app that only costs $4.99 to purchase, was well worth the price… especially to one puzzler.

The app offered an unusual incentive to its players. Basically, Puzzlotto challenged their customers to try and solve the game as fast as possible, and who ever could do it first would receive a cash prize.

Now, we’re not talking a $20 gift card or anything, they were offering cold hard cash, and each day that it went unsolved an extra $1,000 was to be added to the prize total.

Much like the name, the game was a lot like a lotto, except for instead of just buying a ticket and hoping for the best, you actually had to employ some skill to win this prize money.

Depending on how hard the app was, those dollars could really start adding up, but David Lanham and Mike Lee, the creators of the unusual app, were smart enough to have the prize hit its cap at $30,000.

However, before even coming close to the cap the puzzle was solved, and after only eight days much less. A man named Dave is the winner, and is set to receive a cool $8,000.

Bike Or Die: The Title Says It All (Video)

Author: Robin Eddins   |   Posted under: News, Videos
Tags: , ,

A new video for the iPhone version of Bike or Die has been released by developer ToySpring to give a sneak peak at the already popular Palm OS title.

The iPhone version will be exactly like the original on the Palm. This will allow users from either version to compare scores and use the same levels.

The game will come fully equipped with 25 levels, not to mention thousands of others provided by 3rd party contributors.

You can customize the game to fit you. Change the color of your bike and even change your gender.

Some levels appear to use glue as a way to stop the bike from falling into the hands of gravity - a cool feature.

Developers say the game is near completion and are hoping to release it in the next few weeks.

Andreas from Illusion Labs has sent us a second preview of their upcoming app Touchgrind.

Use your multi-touch screen to glide though a fully functional skate park, and with your two little fingers you can create a world of skating fun. Jump over boxes, glide across rails and do crazy tricks off of ramps. Personalize your tricks and get better as you “skate.”

We orignally reported that Touchgrind was slated for release in October, but as the month comes to a close, it’s clear that won’t be happening. However, the new video has reassured us that the release date is now set for the end of November.

iChalky - A Stick Figure With Some Personality (Video)

iChalky is definitely entertaining. Watch the stick figure move from side to side while trying to keep its balance. As you turn the phone, Chalky the stick figure responds to the accelerometer and attempts not to fall, which is extremely amusing to watch. The application is based on simple physics where masses are connected through a series of springs.

Using the touch screen on your iPhone or iPod Touch manipulate Chalky in any direction.

Play some music and watch Chalky get down while he dances along with the beat.

This app is now available at the App Store.

Urban Tycoon v1.1 | Published by Touchsoft Mobile | Via App Store | $1.99 | Released: 10-07-08

Overview

Urban Tycoon brings Sim City to the iPhone. It’s an addictive time waster for aspiring city planners, bored adults, and ambitious kids. You’ll be delighted to see your blank plot of land grow into a thriving metropolis. But watch your tax rate!

Functionality

You’ll be presented with a blank screen of green with darker green squares and roads between these. What you’re looking at (for the Sim City novice) is your city acreage. Tapping on one of the dark green squares indicates that you want to “build” something there. You’ll be presented with a list of options, but you’ll quickly notice that you have no money to use to build anything.

You’ll want to do something quickly because the music with the game is actually kind of inspiring… I want the soundtrack. ;)

That’s when you’ll need to tap on the “City” button at the bottom, and raise taxes. (Democrats definitely will enjoy this game!) Just push that slider all the way over. Hit those folks with a tax rate of 50% or greater. Dukakis, Kerry and Obama will be proud.
